Scalability in Hydra

We are using the unique biological properties of Hydra to understand how a nervous system can change size and stay functional. Indeed, as opposed to most other animal models, in Hydra the same animal can grow and shrink by up to an order of magnitude. This is reversible, reproducible and controllable in a laboratory environment. Moreover, we made it possible in Hydra to observe the activity of its entire nervous system with single-neuron resolution. Accordingly, we are investigating scalability at the level of behavior, neuronal activity and neuronal connectivity.
