The Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing(CIBR, Beijing) was established on March 22, 2018. It is one of the new research and development institutes, strongly supported by the Beijing Municipal government, implements the national innovation-driven development strategy to build a national science and technology innovation center. Positioned as the “National Science and Technology Innovation Center” in Beijing, It will establish a collaborative innovation, scientific and efficient operation mechanism and strive to achieve cutting-edge technological breakthroughs in the field of brain science and brain science research.
CIBR is governed by The Board of Trustees (BOT), which is responsible for institute policy and consists of representatives from eight agencies, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Peking University (PKU) , Tsinghua University (THU), Beijing Normal University (BJU), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS) and the Beijing Municipal Government. CIBR conducts original research for understanding the fundamental principle of brain, solving major cognitive disorders, promoting intelligence development and performance of adolescent, developing brain-like intelligence technology and constructing general technical assistance facilities and biological-medical resource databases. By constructing a cooperative, innovative, efficient and rational research environment, we aim at establishing a top-level research-oriented institute to make major break-through in science and solve the main concerns of the country , and also educating future generations of brain scientists.
The center is located in the Zhongguancun Life Science Park in Changping District, Beijing. It is an important component of the North R&D service and high-tech industry belt, and is included in the planning of the future Science City. The existing experimental room is more than10,400 square meters, with 9 independent laboratories, 6 core facilities, and 10 PIs. It is planned to build a 60,000-square-meter research building with 50-60 laboratories by 2022, and form a research team of about 1,000 people including scientific researchers, post-doctoral fellows, postgraduates and administrative assistants, of which foreign scientists will reach 25%. The postdoctoral fellows will become the main research force of CIBR.
