About CIBR Leaders Committees Administration

Established on March 22, 2018, the Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing (CIBR, Beijing) is jointly built by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. CIBR aims to target the cutting-edge frontiers of global brain science and address the strategic needs of China's brain research field. By innovating mechanisms and systems, integrating advantageous resources in the brain science domain, establishing comprehensive laboratories and technical facilities, and attracting top-tier talents and research teams from around the world, CIBR endeavors to achieve significant original innovation outcomes in brain science, promote international exchanges and cooperation, and build itself into a world-class brain science institute facing the forefront of science.

The institute focuses on four major research directions: fundamental principles of the brain, brain disorders, neuroscience methods, and neural computation and neuroengineering. Spanning a total area of 62,000 square meters, CIBR has completed the construction of 37 laboratories and 11 core facilities. On June 12, 2024, CIBR, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, officially inaugurated the Beijing Institute for Brain Research, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Institute for Brain Research, Peking Union Medical College.
