Welcome students from PUMC for Visiting & Learning

On July 9, 2025, the Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing ("CIBR") organized the "Peking Union Medical College Summer Course." On that day, CIBR welcomed 57 students from the Peking Union Medical College, embarking on a journey of exploration into brain science and brain-inspired intelligence research.
Professor Yonggong Zhai first delivered a welcome speech to the students and provided a comprehensive introduction to CIBR’s organizational structure, four major research directions, representative scientific achievements, and development philosophy. He encouraged the students to embrace curiosity and reverence for science and actively explore the mysteries of brain science.

In the subsequent lecture session, Researchers Woo-ping Ge, Jianglai Wu, Ying Li, and Chong Li each presented a series of high-level academic talks based on their respective research fields. The lecture topics covered multiple areas, including "Brain Metabolism and Its Mechanisms in Neuron-Glial Cell Networks", "Development of Optical Imaging Technologies", "Neural Basis of Social Behavior", and "Human Brain Development and Brain Disease Models". These presentations fully demonstrated CIBR’s multidisciplinary research layout and technological innovation, providing the students with a more systematic and comprehensive understanding of cutting-edge issues and research methods in brain science.

In the afternoon activities, the students were divided into groups to visit four research laboratories and technical platforms at CIBR, including the Chen Jian Lab, Chen Guang Lab, Instrumentation Core, and Biological Mass Spectrometry Center. Guided by laboratory instructors and technical staff from the platforms, the students gained firsthand understanding of experimental approaches to brain disease mechanisms, cognition, and motor control research. They also explored the forefront of research equipment design and biological sample analysis technology, further expanding their knowledge of the brain science research system and interdisciplinary support platforms.

This course not only provided Peking Union Medical College students with an opportunity to engage closely with brain science research but also further deepened CIBR’s open, integrative, and educational academic atmosphere. In the future, CIBR will continue to actively participate in the training of Peking Union Medical College students, leverage its platform advantages, support the early identification of top innovative medical talents, and promote multidisciplinary integrated development, injecting sustained momentum into the research and education efforts in brain science and life health fields.
