Internship Opportunity: Join the Koziol Lab at CIBR!
Internship & Final-Year Project Opportunities – Koziol Lab, CIBR
The Koziol Laboratory at the Chinese Institute for Brain Research (CIBR), Beijing, is inviting applications for internship and undergraduate thesis (final-year project) placements. We welcome candidates from diverse academic backgrounds who are keen to apply different approaches to fundamental questions in biology and neuroscience.
We are particularly interested in applicants with a background and research interest in at least one of the following areas:
(a) Molecular Biology
(b) Bioinformatics
(c) Mass Spectrometry
(d) Neurobiology
We are an interdisciplinary team. Depending on your background and interests, you will have the opportunity to work across areas including molecular biology, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, and neurobiology.
OUR RESEARCH & LAB
It is becoming increasingly clear that DNA and RNA is not only made of 4 different molecules arranged in a different sequence. These 4 different molecules can be specifically modified in many different ways by designated enzymes of the cell. These modifications encode further information on the DNA and RNA that are critical to cellular function. These DNA and RNA modifications are essential and can regulate genes, transcripts, cells and brain function.
Our lab is at the forefront of this emerging field. Because these modifications are often undetectable by conventional sequencing methods, we develop and apply novel tools that integrate molecular biology, bioinformatics, and mass spectrometry to detect and characterise them. With these tools, we are addressing key scientific questions:
1. How is information or memory stored in the brain?
2. How do brain cells communicate with each other?
3. What changes occur in brain cells during development or ageing?
We are an international team based at a world-class, internationally recognised research institute. Our lab is collaborative, interdisciplinary, and dynamic. We benefit from stable core funding, state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, and strong institutional support from core facilities including bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, instrumentation, flow cytometry, imaging, and animal models.
