Chinese President Xi Jinping Inspects Scientific and Technological Innovation Work in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the National Information Technology Application Innovation Park in Beijing E-Town on the morning of Feb. 9, his first inspection tour in the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
During the visit, Xi heard briefings on progress in information technology application innovation and on Beijing’s efforts to accelerate the building of an international science and technology innovation center. He also viewed representative innovation achievements on display.
Professor Luo Minmin, director of the Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing, took part in the on-site exchange as a representative of research institutions and was received by Xi.
Luo said Xi’s important remarks were inspiring and encouraging. He said that, over more than seven years since its establishment, the institute has made key clinical breakthroughs in priority areas such as brain-computer interfaces and gene therapy.
According to Luo, the institute’s intelligent BCI systems, “Beinao No. 1” and “Beinao No. 2,” were each listed as “Major Scientific and Technological Achievements” at the Zhongguancun Forum.
Luo said the institute will implement Xi’s instructions, follow the strategic priorities of the 15th Five-Year Plan, and further integrate basic research with clinical translation. It will focus on overcoming critical bottleneck technologies and translating research results into practical applications to protect people’s health, he said.
