About the Principal Investigator (PI)

Dr. Yihong Ye is a newly appointed Distinguished Investigator at the Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing (CIBR). Prior to joining CIBR, Dr. Ye served as a Senior Investigator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying protein and organelle homeostasis and their roles in neurodegenerative diseases.

Utilizing an integrated approach combining biochemistry, advanced imaging, and genetics, Dr. Ye has made significant contributions to the field, identifying key molecular and cellular pathways involved in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and lysosome homeostasis.

His discoveries include:

ERAD regulators (p97, Derlins, Bag6).

UFM1-mediated translational quality control on the ER.

Unconventional secretion triggered by protein misfolding.

Ubiquitin-mediated lysosomal quality control.

Dr. Ye has authored nearly 120 SCI papers in top-tier journals such as Nature, Nature Cell Biology, Molecular Cell, and PNAS. A list of his recent publications can be found here:

Current Research Focus

The new laboratory at CIBR will focus on investigating organelle homeostasis imbalance, particularly the role of lysosomal membrane damage in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.
