CIBR Launches the EDGE Distinguished Lecture Series: Engaging with World-Leading Scientists on the Frontiers of Life Sciences
The Chinese Institute for Brain Research, Beijing (CIBR) will launch the EDGE Distinguished Lecture Series in October 2026.

EDGE stands for Exploration, Discovery, and Global Excellence. The series will focus on frontier areas of life sciences and brain science, bringing together distinguished scientists from China and abroad to share major scientific discoveries, the latest research advances, and perspectives on future research directions. Through these exchanges, the series aims to explore the frontiers of science and expand the boundaries of scientific understanding.
The inaugural EDGE lecture will take place on October 29, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Academic Lecture Hall X102 at CIBR. The invited speaker is Professor Peter Walter of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, USA.
Professor Walter has made pioneering contributions to the study of the unfolded protein response (UPR). His research has advanced our understanding of cellular stress responses and the mechanisms governing protein homeostasis. In recognition of his contributions to elucidating the UPR, he received the 2014 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award and the 2018 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences.

The upcoming EDGE Distinguished Lecture Series will feature additional distinguished scholars from China and around the world, including:
- Professor Hong Zhang — Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Professor Geoffrey Schoenbaum — National Institutes of Health, USA
- Professor Randy Schekman — University of California, Berkeley, USA
- Professor Polina Anikeeva — Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA
- Professor Catherine Dulac — Harvard University, USA
- Professor Adrian Bird — University of Edinburgh, UK

Further speakers and lecture schedules will be announced in due course.
Researchers and students are warmly invited to attend the EDGE Distinguished Lecture Series and engage in discussions on scientific questions and the latest research advances.
